  1. An acronym standing for 'doing business as,' used whenever an individual or entity conducts business under a different name. All states require a public record of this business name, which can be filed with a County Clerk, the state Secretary of State, or another official. This process doesn't apply when a business name contains the true owner's name or when a corporation name is in use
