Grew up in Phenix City, Alabama and Columbus, Georgia area. Married to childhood sweetheart, Norma Wells Floyd, in 1959 until she died in 2011. Remarried to Martha Tomlin Floyd in 2013. Father dentist, mother housewife,grandfather medical doctor and long time mayor of Phenix City, and four uncles medical doctors or dentists. Three children, Gypsy retired high school teacher, Charles III, law partner since 1992, and Jennifer private school math teacher. All graduated from Auburn University. David started practicing bankruptcy law shortly thereafter in Montgomery, Alabama then in Selma, Alabama before coming to Opelika, Alabama. David lives in Montgomery, Alabama with his wife and seven children.
