Prior to becoming licensed in 1997, I was employed in law enforcement. I served 23 years in the USAF, first as an enlisted member in law enforcement and then as an officer in the Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG), where I served almost exclusively as a criminal defense attorney. Following my retirement in 2008, I continued practicing in the private sector. Attorney John Haugen has been serving the needs of his community and nation for his entire life. He graduated from West Point and then went on to spend five years as an U.S. Army Captain. After he was honorably discharged, he continued his higher education at USC, then received his Juris Doctor as Texas Wesleyan School of Law. Mr. Karns was formerly a Captain on active duty in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps where he received the Parachutist Badge, the U.S. Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. Subsequent to active duty, he continued his service in the U.S. Army Reserves where he was promoted to Major and served as a Senior Defense Counsel and received an Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Karns completed his reserve duty in 2005.
