He graduated in 1986 from Capital University law school (Magna Cum Laude) and is a member for Phi Beta Kappa from Denison University (also Magna Cum Laude). He has served as President of the Fairfield County Bar Association and as an Acting Judge in the Fairfield County Municipal Court.
